Peninsula Animal Aid (PAA) Association Inc. is a registered charity based in Clontarf on the Redcliffe Peninsula in Queensland and was established in 1971.
Land in Huntington Street Clontarf was leased to us by the Redcliffe City Council .. plans were drawn up for our shelter to be built and an old house that had been generously donated to us by an animal lover was transported to the shelter site .. our organisation went from operating from foster homes to a shelter operation in 1974.
We are staffed entirely by voluntary workers, they are dedicated to the care and re-homing of stray and abandoned cats and dogs .. every year many hundreds of cats and dogs are admitted to our shelter premises .. many of these animals are sick or injured or have just been abandoned and consequently require veterinary attention.
In the beginning we accepted abandoned animals from all areas and as a result soon became inundated wth cats and dogs .. we found that we had to limit our intake to the Peninsula only but we are now able to redirect people with stray and unwanted animals which are not from the Peninsula to their local shelters which have since been built in these other areas .. through our recent Council amalgamation our catchment area has widened considerably and we are struggling to accommodate all of the abandoned animals.
When the shelter in Huntington Street could no longer comply with the health and safety regulations it seemed we would have no alternative but to close down fortunately the Council realising the value of the shelter to the community and the on-going need for a shelter offered to provide new premises for us .. the new shelter opened in 1997 which is where we are today in Duffield Road Clontarf.
The shelter raises funds by washing dogs in week-end hydrobaths .. sausage sizzles .. sweets fundraising .. fetes .. it does not receive government funding and survives on the generousity of the general public who make donations of money and contribute to the food collections outside supermarkets.
Our Mitsubishi van is sponsored by Northstar Motor Group.
We urgently need sponsorships ... donations .. foster carers and permanent caring volunteers to help us continue with this very worthwile much needed work .. please help us in our plight to alleviate animal suffering.
If you are looking for a pet and will give it a loving home
Come and see us about our beautiful cats and dogs.
